Update

I bought my removable-limbs C3PO in Scarborough in the summer of 1983, when we went there for a day trip while staying at Butlin's in Filey. It was raining. And no, of course my brother didn't buy his R2D2 at the same time, he already had it - at Scarborough that day with his holiday money he bought Mer-Man. This will have been just after his fifth birthday. It's an experience, being a world-renowned memory master and not even having the best memory in your immediate family.

Sometimes I wish I had a good memory

I like being recommended videos on YouTube that are vaguely related to the kind of thing I like. Case in point, this one about the exciting world of collecting mint-on-card Star Wars figures, and the fascinating case of the removable-limbs C3PO on a 45-back card.

But it just makes me think that that toy was one of the first Star Wars figures I had, and wishing I could remember whether it was on an Empire Strikes Back card or Return of the Jedi. It's just academic curiosity, it certainly wouldn't have been one of those ultra-rare ones the video talks about, but if I had an "eidetic memory" or "perfect autobiographical memory" or one of the many other silly things that people sometimes attribute to me, I would be able to resolve this conundrum.

As it is, though, I'll just have to ask my brother. He'll remember the exact date, time and location where we bought the toys (he got an R2D2 with periscope at the same time, I think) and maybe even how many figures were shown on the back of the card. Probably not the last one, though - like all sensible people, we ripped the figures off the card immediately on purchasing them, and threw the card away.

Unless we clipped the name off it to send off for a special figure, but possibly that offer wasn't running at that point. I don't remember...

I didn't know you could do this!

You can write little furigana (ふりがな) -style annotations above words on this blog using HTML tags! You know, like a little extra note showing pronunciation (pro-nun-see-ay-shun) or meaning or anything else you might want to blather (ramble) about! This opens all kinds of exciting (not-really) possibilities for illuminating (confusing) my blog-readers!
