Outwith the Old
I mentioned a while ago that I've been following the Rangers story, mainly for want of anything better to do with my time. One thing you hear a lot in people's discussion of the subject is the word "outwith". I mean, really, if Scottish people are just going to make up words, then they shouldn't be allowed to speak English in the first place. Kick them out of the English language and make them speak Gaelic. Or Welsh.

Does it mean 'exterior'/'foreign'/'not a member of' ie. an antonym of within?
Pretty much, yes - there's a lot of talk about whether people would have the same attitude towards another club outwith the Old Firm, or outwith the Premier League. If you look it up on the internet, you'll see that lots of Scottish people think it's a perfectly normal word, although I'd never heard of it before this brief passing interest in Scottish football...
