We're with the bear

I tell you, there's nothing like staying up till three in the morning when you've got a cold to make you feel all the worse the next day. Actually, I was feeling so yucky last night that I almost decided to skip the phone-answering, but I'm glad I didn't - not only was it fun, it's so mild outside at the moment now that I think a couple of late-night bike rides to work and back made me feel a lot better than wallowing in my germs at home would have done.

Anyway, enough whining. What with going out last night, I didn't have a chance to write a blog and tell you about my day on Friday. The highlight, among all the various fund-raising activities going on at the office, was entering a guess the name of the bear competition and winning it! Well, it was obvious, really - the options were Bartholomew and a lot of stupid modern names that people call their children nowadays. So Bartholomew, an extremely cool giant teddy (he'd come up about to my waist if he stood up, which he can't do since his legs are stuck in a sitting position) is now making friends with all my much smaller cuddly toys in my bedroom. I hope he's not bullying them.

There was also a second, less cool, part of the prize - a pair of "designer sunglasses". Funnily enough, they look exactly like my cheap Specsavers prescription sunglasses that I rarely wear, except they've got "Police" written on them in small letters. I don't really need these designer shades, and there doesn't seem much point in going to the effort of getting prescription lenses put in them so I don't have to wear them on top of my normal glasses, so somebody can expect them as a Christmas present from me.

Not somebody I like all that much, obviously, seeing as I've just spent the last paragraph deriding them. I'll give them to one of my enemies, assuming I manage to make any enemies between now and Christmas.

Sir, which comics you like to read the most on internet. What is your favorite character.

Please don't call me 'Sir'. The only webcomics I'm reading regularly at the moment are Order of the Stick, Newshounds and Housepets! - although those links all take you to the latest comic, and all three of them have huge epic storylines and lots of characters, so it's best to start reading them from the beginning.

Favourite characters, it's hard to say since all of those comics have big casts and there are a lot of them I like. In OOTS, Elan the bard is hilarious, as is his evil twin brother Nale, in Newshounds you've got to love Alistair the extremely political cat, and in Housepets I always like to see the Mr Bigglesworths - a legion of identical cats whose owner can't tell them apart and so gave them all the same name.

It's worth mentioning that all these comics are American - British writers just can't seem to produce good comic strips these days...

Uncle, when you are making 'Ben System' did you saw any movies and TV channels.

I'm pretty sure that 'Uncle' is even worse than 'Sir'. I answer to 'Ben', 'Zoomy', 'Hey you', 'Fatty', 'Bum-face', 'Desirée' on Friday nights, take your pick, but please don't use honorifics when you talk to me.

I watched a lot of TV when I was making up my list of "Ben system" images. Cartoons mostly, but quite a few EastEnders characters made their way into the list, so I must have been watching that a lot at the time. Movies, not so much, although Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere are both among my characters, and I sometimes get the two of them mixed up...

Hey you, 'fatty' bum-face angel,
will you be my teacher.

Well, really, is that any way to talk to a teacher? Sorry, but no, I haven't got the time or the patience to be a teacher. And besides, I can't really teach anything that you won't be better at if you learn by yourself. My advice to people who want to learn memory techniques is to buy a book and learn the basic principles, then make up as much as possible by using your own imagination. It worked for me, anyway...
