Wa erf?
The Waterfall pub in Derby is now called the Wa erf, according to the big letters on the wall. I suspect someone must have stolen the other four letters - and given what they spell, and that you'd need to be able to reach about twelve feet off the ground to swipe them, all evidence points to someone who's of above average height.

Nepal... Rhymes with tall. Has very tall mountains. First place someone tall who's planning an alibi for a tall-themed crime would think of!
Except maybe Walsall, but Nelson might not have heard of there.
But, he probably has heard of Warsaw. Warsaw is the capital of Poland and the people from Poland are called Poles. Poles are associated with tall people but, Poles are of average height.
