I was in Oxfam today, looking for cheap accessories to supplement the costume I'm wearing at my brother's fancy dress party on Saturday, when I noticed a wig for sale that I could use to make me look even more like the character I'm supposed to be (I was planning to be a bald version - the theme is characters from my brother's stories, and like all fiction writers, he has shamefully few handsome, bald-headed heroes). The wig didn't have a price on it, so I asked the woman on the till how much it cost, and she responded by yelling across the store "Gloria! There's a gentleman here wants to know how much the wig costs!"
So the entire Oxfam shop full of people, and I'm sure quite a few people passing by outside, turned to look at me. It'll be in all the papers tomorrow, I'm sure - memory champion buys wig!
Thanks Ben :-)
ReplyDeleteThat was the best blog to date !
Dai.
CHUCKLE! CHUCKLE!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to seeing you Saturday, Ben. I'm intrigued as to who you're gonna be coming as!
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing - the Avion Girls Task Force is about seven high school girls, so the heroes out of that series are not LIKELY to be bald. And Degris is a bald good guy out of my works.
ReplyDeleteI also echo Ian's statement: we really are intrigued, from these few hints received concerning wigs and miniskirts, about who you're coming as. We spent much of last night dicussing that question!
I thought it would be best to leave it as a surprise, so you get the full effect when you first see my magnificent costume tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Degris is a bright orange, four-armed cyclops, and thus not somebody I could easily dress up as, despite the advantage of not needing a wig.
He's also not really out of the Avion series, though he does have a signififant role in "The Avion Girls Task Force: Double Trouble." It's also a fair point that he'd be quite difficult to dress up as.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward greatly to seeing your magnificentc costume tomorrow. Something tells me "surprise" is going to be the word...
